LinkNYC

LinkNYC is an advertising-supported community kiosk replacing existing pay phones with free public Wi-Fi, USB device charging, access to emergency services, and a touch tablet.

The tablet launcher leverages paradigms from Android and Google material design to provide an intuitive interface. Reliance on iconography ensures non-native speakers can quickly grasp app functionality.

Wayfinding

The tablet offers quick access to Google Maps with nearby locations instantly visible. Based on initial user research, wayfinding is a key feature New Yorkers would like LinkNYC to offer.

Free Phone Calls

You can still make phone calls via LinkNYC, and thanks to Vonage now they are free.  The app interface has been optimized for Link users, including larger touch buttons, and number masking for privacy.

911

We worked closely with the NYPD to ensure the 911 button would be effective in helping New Yorkers in emergency situations. A two-press system prevents pranksters from flooding call centers. All calls are routed via modem to ensure service regardless of connectivity.

Digital Ad Network

LinkNYC is free to New Yorkers — all cost from manufacturing to deployment is covered by ad revenue. The LinkNYC ad network is the first impressions-based digital out of home network, offering marketers the advanced targeting and flexibility they've come to expect from digital channels.
